Month: January 2010
Days are little bit longer but cold ,or .. absolutely cold, and today, on top, windy.
I don’t think that walking at Franz Ferdinand rhythm or wearing my “under -16ºC ” winter model will help me to enjoy my usual walk..
let’s see tomorrow.

Last weekend , 21-24 of January, was held at Stockholm the Nordic Design fair – “Formex”, that, despite being held twice a year , usually around 15-30 January and 15-30 August,.has always a great number of visitors and exhibitors: design, handicrafts, folk arts, decorating, gifts….Photo from the Stockholm International Fairs gallery. In this spring edition, some interesting initiatives : DESIGN Students, Creative Flow, that is the spring theme of the fair, and HAND Made, exhibition focusing on handicraft products unique to the Nordic region. The design of the items conveys a bit of their own history as well as a glimpse of the future. Saturday is in Finland the favorite day to go to the sauna, this does not mean that any other day of the week is inadequate, but, at least for hygienic reasons, once a week we go.©Ruth Landesa.
Other good reasons to go are.. … social, meteorological, family …
These days, the coldness is without any doubt a reason, an easy excuse for a 90ºC/ 100ºC relaxing sauna, and the low temperatures are at the same time hinder me to have the traditional bath that normally goes with ….©Ruth Landesa. .

It was such estrange feeling this morning.. the temperature outside was only -3ºC !!.. It is so great to have a break after some days of -18ªC /-20ºC !!!
Last weeks even though they were, in general, really cold, I had the opportunity to visit the small ski resort of Povoo, kokonniemi, not far from Loviisa, and with a friendly, local and familiar atmosphere that I love.
And moreover, is almost beside the old town so just perfect for short walk around or for a nice place to seat and relax after some exercise outdoor!

And so we did a few days ago..we had lunch at the restaurant “El Alba” , we sat just by the wood stove, very nice! or rather wonderful considering that outside the temperature was -16ºC!
Here I go with some wonderful photos by the Norwegian writer and photographer Elisabeth Aarhus Hudson. Her works for, among others, Elle Interiør, Design Interiør and Maison.

Tertti is an old Finnish manor that has been renovated according to the traditional Finnish style. Just a perfect place to stay, eat, have a coffee or simply visit and enjoy a relaxing and grateful atmosphere.
It’s also possible to buy some delicacies locally produced at the small Tertti’s shop (mustard is something to try …).
And guests can also enjoy in their rooms the wonderful interior decoration by Mirja Backmansson, designer, painter, interior decorator, that was Glorian Koti magazine editor for “a life”, great friend of mine and coleague, among others, in the “little Christmas decorations made from recycled materials”
Tertti Manor is granted the Building and Environmental Art prize of Southeastern Finland as a recognition of treasuring traditions.
