This morning it was snowing again… I hope the Spring comes soon full of beautiful colors and flowers…

A few weeks ago I received and e-mail from Zoe, who blogs at Playing by the book, all about books and play for children, inviting me to collaborate in a post for the new section on her blog “Reading Around Europe” country Finland. She was looking for a couple of fun and truly Finnish craft/art/cookery projects she could try with her kids. She also asked me a photo from my blog.

I like Zoe´s blog, she is very nice, I like reading, cooking , crafting,,.. so I accepted with pleasure and sent to her a photo of a necklace for girls, a traditional recipe of the Finnish Oven Pancake ( in the pic below), and a couple of photos of crafts to make with kids… And the result was  a great post you can visit here or clicking on the photo.

Hugo Backmansson Exhibition, Helsinki

I’m going this week to the Art Museum Amo Anderson in Helsinki for the  opening of the exhibition of the artist  Hugo Backmansson.  With the event comes the launching of the book “Hugo Backmansson Taiteilija, Upseeri Ja Seikkailija” (Hugo Backmansson Artist, Officer and Adventurer, translated into English) written, along with Marie- Sofie Lundström, Tutta Palin and Marju Rönkkö , by my good friend Tom, Tom Backmansson, about his grandfather’s life and work.

Helsinki Design Week 2010

From 26 Augh to 5 Sept 2010 it takes place in Helsinki  ( that will the World Designt Capital 2012 ) the “”Helsinki Desgin Week“” offering  visitors exhibitions, seminars, workshops, fashion shows and shopping experiences, as well as open days in private homes, public buildings and design studios.

Some of the studios that will be open to the visitors some days are:
Jenni Rope Illustrations, paints, books, drawings….I would really like to visit her studio…
Muovo, Dressing up accessories, useful products for every home, products for pets…
Pentagondesign Designs for everyday needs.
Selkifabrik Hats and scarves designed an d produced  by combining traditional techniques with modern shapes and colors. (They can also design a unique pattern just for you!!).
Secto Design Wooden lamps designed by interior architect Seppo Koho. They are amazing!

“Maja” by Mari Savio and Kati Rapia

I post again about a book by my friends Mari and Kati. Now is the turn of  “Maja”,  inspiration for the whole family to create the fantasy worlds.

“Maja” gives instructions and  good  ideas on how to create new and funny stuffs for children using and recycling what we have home. It also gives some seeds of ideas for decorating the “Imagination room”, the children’s own room.

“Maja” has been selected to the Finest Finnish Books 2008 collection by the Finnish Book Arts Committee.

“Juju” by Mari Savio and Kati Rapia

I post today some wonderful photos from my friends Mari Savio and Kati Rapia’s Juju book…. Juju’s clothes adventure in a greenhouse and a secret garden…The book is full of inspiration and holds instructions for making unique children clothes from new or recycled fabrics and accessories.

Designs are by Mari, designer, and pictures (made with collage technique) by Kati, photographer, illustrator and writer.

Jenni Rope

I was few weeks ago when I had the chance to browse Jenni Rope‘s “Pallopostia” (“Round Letters” in the english version), I was impressed.. it’s just the perfect combination between writing and art..  wonderful!

The book has been published by Napa books (independent publishing house Jenni founded along with Nappa Gallery & Shop).

Jenni Rope, artist with an active curriculum, works in Helsinki. Drawings, paintings, collage, books… She also has done many record cover designs and animation videos for bands and she occasionally  makes illustrations for the Napa Illustrations Agency ……

Her works have been exhibited in Finland and abroad: Co-prosperity Sphere, Chicago, V1 Gallery, Copenhagen, Adam Baumgold Gallery, New York… and from the 24th of January to the 6th of March her exhibition My Forest” is at Bongout Gallery, Berlín.Then, it goes to Tokyo.
